Aaron Sloman is a British artificial intelligence researcher, cognitive scientist, and philosopher known for his work on the architecture of mind and emotion in AI systems. He is Professor Emeritus of Artificial Intelligence and Cognitive Science at the University of Birmingham, where he founded the School of Computer Science’s AI research group. Sloman’s research focuses on computational models of mental processes, particularly emotions, motivations, and cognitive architectures. He developed influential theories about information-processing architectures for minds and robots, including the CogAff (Cognition and Affect) project. His interdisciplinary approach combines philosophy, psychology, and computer science to understand both biological and artificial minds. Sloman has authored numerous papers and books on AI, philosophy of mind, and cognitive science, and is recognized for his contributions to understanding the computational basis of intelligence and consciousness.
